The majority of Alex Stutchbury's work focuses on his three main passions – sport (in particular Formula One), film and music portraiture. Formula One cars have always been designed for their aerodynamic efficiency, not their aesthetic quality. However, the beautifully sculpted carbon-fibre bodywork makes every car a piece of art in their own right. He has always been drawn to the detailed shapes of these amazingly intricate car designs. He loves the way the reflections fall upon the curved metal, creating abstract patterns which can partially disguise these otherwise recognisable machines. Daniel Ricciardo - McLaren MCL35M 2021 - Portrait Poster Print
MMAS1
Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury. Painting of Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo, in his first outing for the Woking team, as he races into a pit stop during the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix. I have tried to capture the amazing speed of a Formula One pit stop by blurring all of the pit crew around Ricciardo’s MCL35M, as he pulls into his box. The transition from the speed of the car as it pulls up, to the frenzied work of the pit crew, is an amazing sight and one that I’ve tried to capture using the vibrant papaya orange against the blue bodywork and helmets of the McLaren team crew. 200mph cars and 2 second pitstops, F1 is all about speed, speed, speed.

Alain Prost - Ferrari 641 | 1990 - Portrait Poster Print
MMAS1
Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury. Prost was a formidable driver. His speed and capacity to get the best from every situation, through split-second calculations on track, earned him the nickname, "The Professor". He won 51 races and 4 World Championships, three coming during his time at McLaren. Ferrari produced the stunning 641 in 1990 for the reigning world champion Alain Prost to drive. He took the No.1 to Maranello after leaving the dominant McLaren team. He scored 5 wins including an excellent run of 3 straight victories mid-season. He however, lost out on the title when arch enemy Ayrton Senna drove them both off at the start in Suzuka, deciding the championship in favour of the Brazilian.
Nether-the-less, the V-12 engines 641 was a fantastic looking car, with a straight nose that pointed dramatically down. This aggressive design created lovely reflections and is the only F1 car to feature as a permanent ‘sculpture’ in the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

He somehow managed to hold off the hard charging Max Verstappen until the end of the race, while being on a less desirable tire compound. At one point the Brit went wheel-to-wheel with the Dutchman, and still managed to hold on to take a crucial 25 World Championship points.
The Sakhir circuit always produces a great race and is a fantastic looking location, with the multicoloured run-off areas at the side of the track. My painting depicts Hamilton pushing his Mercedes W12 to the limits as he chases another incredible victory.

Robert Kubica BMW Sauber Formula One Car- Portrait Poster Print
MMAS1
Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury, is of the BMW Sauber Formula 1 car. Robert Kubica became the first Polish driver to win a Grand Prix when he won at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 2008. His spectacular victory came just 12 months after a horrific accident at the same track. This victory was hugely popular across the entire motorsport community and also marked BMW’s first and only victory as a constructor.
This painting is of the nosecone of Kubica’s BMW Sauber and showcases both the intricate aerodynamic winglets on the front wing and on the top of the nosecone itself. These made for a fascinatingly sculpted Grand Prix car, but sadly disrupted the air flow to the cars behind. As a result, many of these elements would be banned when the rules changed in 2009. However, in the hands of the Polish driver, Kubica would score 7 podiums and come joint third overall in the F1 World Championship.

Max Verstappen 2021 Emilia Romagna GP Winner Red Bull RB16B - Portrait Poster Print
MMAS1
Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury, after a dramatic start in the rain, Max Verstappen jumped straight from third to first after going wheel-to-wheel with Lewis Hamilton over the curbs at turn one. Verstappen then produced a great drive to lead all the way in very challenging conditions, to win his 11th Grand Prix race, the 2021 Emilia Romagna GP in the Red Bull RB16B car.
My painting shows Verstappen pushing his Red Bull to the limit over the curbs, in the latter stages of a race. The green, white and red curbing is an iconic element of the Imola circuit, and was an important factor during the Emilia Romagna GP weekend. In this painting, sparks can be seen as Verstappen runs over the extra raised curb on the outside of the Variante Alta chicane.

Sebastian Vettel - Aston Martin AMR1 2021 - Portrait Poster Print
MMAS1
Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury. The most iconic British car company re-enters Formula One in 2021, to compete for the first time since the 1950s. To keep with tradition, the new Aston Martin team has chosen to race in the iconic British racing green colours. However, with the slight twist of using a subtle metallic paint, they have created a beautifully reflective and contrasting livery for the neatly sculpted AMR1. To make 2021 extra special, the team added the romantic notion of a four-time Formula One world champion to lead the driver line-up. In 2021, Sebastian Vettel drives with a classy white and pink helmet, promoting sustainable water and drinking around the world, in conjunction with sponsors BWT. With these two eye-catching designs together, this team/driver a combination will certainly make an impression to the racing fans around the world.

Painting of the nosecone of the car that took Nico Rosberg to his first and only F1 World Championship. It was Rosberg’s consistency however, which allowed him to take the title after a tense championship showdown in Abu Dhabi.

Mario Andretti - 1978 F1 World Champion - Portrait Poster Print
MMAS1
Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury. One of the most famous F1 cars of all time, the Lotus 79D became iconic for two key reasons. It was the first car to use ‘ground effects’, a process were the airflow is channelled under the car, giving huge amounts of grip by sucking it to the track. The second reason was the reflective black and gold JPS branding used to cover the beautifully sculpted bodywork. The 1978 season brought highs and lows to the Lotus F1 team. Its two star drivers, Mario Andretti and Ronnie Peterson, dominated most races and Andretti wrapped up the title at Monza. Sadly that same race cost the life of his teammate after a fiery start-line crash. This painting depicts the all-conquering 79D, sat in the garage, after being driven to victory by Andretti at the 1978 German GP.

Nigel Mansell - 1992 F1 World Champion - Portrait Poster Print
MMAS1
Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury. One of the most dominant cars ever, the FW14B carried Nigel Mansell to his one and only F1 World Championship. So dominant was the Adrian Newey-designed car, that if Mansell had not competed, his teammate Riccardo Patrese would have won the championship instead. This classic Williams was so effective because of two things - it's streamline bodywork and 'active suspension'. This was so important that have painted an angle of the front nose where you can clearly see the suspension and reflection off the underside bodywork.

Alan Jones - 1980 F1 World Champion - Portrait Poster Print
MMAS1
Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury, known for his flat-out style and straight-talking attitude, Alan Jones won many fans on the GP circuit. His bravery came at a perfect time for Williams, who had pushed the technical boundaries of ‘ground effects’ to develop the dominant FW07B. The speed drivers could suddenly carry through corners initially alarmed many drivers and Jones was able to take advantage of his bravery to claim 10 podiums in 11 finishes, including 5 victories in 1980.

Keke Rosberg - 1982 F1 World Champion - Portrait Poster Print

Regular price £80.00This poster print from the original painting by Alex Stutchbury, known as the first ‘Flying Finn’, Keke Rosberg won many admirers with his flat-out driving. Consistency, however, was still key in the 1982 season, where no one won more than two Grand Prix. The ground-effects on the Williams FW08 was so effective that Rosberg often raced without a front wing, allowing the airflow to move under the car without disruption. This car has become iconic for delivering Finland’s first World Champion as well as the second Driver’s Championship for the Williams team.
